noisey engine

sometime around January, i started hearing the engine tapping again and its not the first time, it was 25°F and snowing outside, I wanted to check the battery's cold start voltage. The engine started up with the usual tapping and kept going for some minutes before I shut it down. It's still tapping, but once it warms up, it gets much quieter which i think is pretty normal.
I've got 87% oil life left, and the truck is a 2020 RTL with 20,204 miles. the noise started up again and I actually brought up the startup noise again, but the dealer said it was normal.

Anyone else dealing with this?

got a '22 with similar miles. never did experience such noise, considering the weather and in my very own opinion, it could be normal. Have you ever contacted the dealer and see if they can help?

How long do you have the car? I think you should go to another dealership and see what they say about it

The tapping sound is concerning, there could be other factors at play regarding the noises. But i find it interesting that it quiets down when becomes a bit warmer. for this I would definitely go and get a second opinion

The tapping noise during cold starts is likely due to oil density and engine components adapting to the lower temperature. If you check your car's specs, you'll see that such sounds are common with modern engines during extreme weather. Once warmed up, the oil flows better reducing noise so it's usually nothing to worry about unless it persists or worsens over time.

That noise is pretty common with ridgeline when in cold temperatures. It's probably the valve train components or piston slap when the engine starts warming up which honda describe this as normal sound. If the dealer said that is nothing to worry about then it's nothing to worry about

Oh, this sounds so familiar! it's quite chilly here in Vancouver too so this kinda a thing. The dealer also said it's normal. 



I say keep listening to it every now and then. since it quiets down when warm, it's likely just how these engines behave in the cold. but if it gets louder definitely push the dealer for a closer look again.
